I'd just come off the night city desk and was adjusting to working as a reporter again, when I woke up one Saturday morning to learn that the leading Republican candidate for governor had been in a plane crash. Nobody had much information; Helena is about 100 miles from Missoula, but a photographer and I jumped in a car and headed off to the crash scene.
