I covered the University of Montana system for years. The system at the time was made up of six campuses scattered around the state; later, the vocational-technical schools were added in as well.
The University of Montana, the liberal-arts school, was in Missoula. These were tough financial years for the system; there were strikes, retrenchments, legislative battles and all manner of political wrangling. There was also some wonderful education taking place. Here are a few of the stories I wrote.
