Intel and AMD settle: The trademark infringement suit over AMD's MMX chip has been settled, with AMD acknowledging that Intel owns the trademark to the name, but the smaller chipmaker is allowed to use it, nonetheless.

Paid to be afraid: Risk managers are looking askance at the Net, and are increasingly worried about computer security, copyright or trademark infringement, invasion of privacy and the like. But, you guessed it, someone's come up with an insurance policy to protect those who buy into the fear.

Boring banners? Maybe you just haven't looked closely at some of those ubiquitous ads on the web. MSNBC has begun a series on the best web ads, including one or two you haven't seen yet. But a new survey says users don't remember them anyway.

Getting under the hood: EDS, the company carved out of government contracts by Ross Perot, has entered the web design business. Shall we expect flip charts? (It's from the New York Times; expect to have to register, and pay, if you're overseas.)

Expanding the bandwidth: Here's one strategy -- send web site users a CD-ROM for enhanced viewing.

E-mail restrictions: Some corporations and government offices are starting to crack down on e-mail use. Some 2.6 trillion e-mail messages are expected to be moving on U.S. networks this year, up from 1.65 trillion last year. IS managers are worrying. Here's the real question: Is e-mail ruining your career?
